ARTIST STATEMENT
“My work is inside jokes, found objects, naturally occurring patterns, mirrors, and kitsch. I focus on social projections and deconstructing identity. The physical act of making and its natural movements dictate a lot of the qualities of my work and the materials I use and the subjects I choose. I’m a ‘know it when I see it’ type, and it follows me into my art practice making it tricky for me to put a finger on why I do the things the way I do them. I tend to gravitate to things I’m amused by - an abandoned pizza slice on the street, a small, rotund dog teetering on a step, tiny toys tucked where they shouldn’t be, and definitely anything I can turn into a pun. To seek the random, I tend to mostly wander and browse the places I go. Screen printing, my focal medium, gives me the ability to make sense of the randomness I find attractive. The options are endless making it the perfect technique for an indecisive person like myself. I started printing because I love how democratic and accessible the practice is and how easy it lends itself to collaboration. I also have an addiction to gold leaf and bedazzling.”
